Monye, a prominent figure in rugby and a former contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, reported experiencing racial abuse from a supporter during the match between Exeter Chiefs and Gloucester last November. During the court proceedings, Beukes, who participated via video link from Cape Town, admitted to using a racial slur but claimed it was not directed at Monye. He entered a not guilty plea, asserting that he did not instigate any inappropriate behavior and described being attacked from behind.
