Bentley Delays All-EV Shift Until 2035
- Bentley has revised its plans to transition to an all-electric lineup, pushing the deadline to 2035.
- The automaker will continue producing plug-in hybrid electric vehicles until that date, launching new PHEV or BEV models annually for the next decade.
- This strategic shift is a response to current economic and market conditions while reaffirming Bentley's commitment to a sustainable future.
Bentley Motors has extended its timeline for transitioning to an all-electric vehicle lineup, now aiming for completion by 2035. Originally set for 2030, the new plan entails the ongoing production of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles for an additional five years. The announcement was made on November 7, 2024, as part of their revised 'Beyond100+' strategy. This adjustment reflects current economic and legislative factors influencing the automotive industry. Under the updated initiative, Bentley will introduce a new plug-in hybrid or battery electric vehicle model each year over the next decade. The company plans to roll out its first fully-electric model, termed the 'Luxury Urban SUV,' in 2026. This vehicle will be manufactured at Bentley's headquarters in Crewe, England, continuing the brand's legacy of luxury automotive design while adapting to changing market demands. Additionally, Bentley noted that three of its existing models—the Continental GT coupe, Continental GT convertible, and Flying Spur—will now feature only ultra-performance plug-in hybrid powertrains. This change follows the cessation of the W12 engine production earlier in 2024, aligning with the company's overall strategy to focus on hybrid and electric vehicles. By adjusting its ambitions and production timeline, Bentley is positioning itself to navigate an evolving automotive landscape while striving to achieve a decarbonized future, reaffirming its identity as a key player in the luxury car market for over a century.
