Story

Indore, Madhya Pradesh – In a show of solidarity and outrage, resident doctors at MY Hospital and affiliated institutions of MGM Medical College have initiated a strike in response to the tragic murder and rape of a fellow resident doctor at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The striking doctors have formed a new movement titled ‘Justice for Abhaya,’ aiming to unify all medical associations under a common cause. Dr. Nayan Jain, president of the central Resident Doctors' Association (RDA), emphasized their commitment to the strike until a thorough investigation into the Kolkata incident is conducted. He expressed confidence in the Supreme Court's ability to deliver justice for the victim and ensure a safer working environment for medical professionals. While the Junior Doctors Association (JDA) has opted to end their strike, they plan to continue protests in the coming days. On Wednesday, the JDA organized a demonstration at Rajwada, seeking public support and raising awareness about the incident. JDA president Harendra Pratap Singh clarified that while they are not on strike, their protests will persist as a means to advocate for their demands and highlight the need for safety in the medical field. The collective actions of these medical professionals reflect a growing concern over workplace safety and the urgent need for justice in the wake of such violent acts against healthcare workers.
