New Port of Limburg set to enhance container security and efficiency

In Belgium, a new container terminal is nearing completion at the old Ford factory in Genk, set to open in February 2025. This facility will have the capacity to handle an impressive 350,000 containers each year and will primarily receive shipments from major ports such as Antwerp and Rotterdam. The port authority plans to enhance security further by installing 80 surveillance cameras, integrating daily drone checks, and erecting a tall perimeter fence around the port area. Benjamin Hermans, the head of Port of Limburg, emphasized the importance of these initiatives, stating that the port intends to maintain a safe operational environment.
