Story

MIAMI — A heat advisory has been issued for Broward and Miami-Dade Counties until 6 p.m. Wednesday, with feels-like temperatures soaring up to 109 degrees. The Florida Keys are also under a heat advisory until 7 p.m., where temperatures could feel as high as 112 degrees. The CBS News Miami Next Weather team predicts a high of 93 degrees in Miami, just shy of the record 95 degrees set in 1909, while Key West is expected to reach 92 degrees, close to its record of 94 degrees from 1885. In Fort Lauderdale, the forecast high of 93 degrees is unlikely to break the old record of 97 degrees set in 1982. Morning showers have been reported across parts of South Florida, with an increasing chance of rain as Saharan dust dissipates, allowing for more moisture in the atmosphere. Scattered storms are anticipated to develop late Wednesday morning through the afternoon. Looking ahead to Thursday, the likelihood of rain increases significantly as the atmosphere becomes moist and unstable, particularly south of a frontal boundary. Widespread storms are expected, potentially bringing heavy downpours. Despite the rain, temperatures will remain toasty in the low 90s, providing some relief from the heat. As the week progresses, South Florida will continue to experience unsettled weather with the potential for more storms on Friday. Highs will remain in the low 90s, with feels-like temperatures reaching into the triple digits. The weekend is expected to bring drier air, resulting in hot and humid conditions with possible spotty storms.
