Coldplay Asia tour tickets sell out fast amid price concerns

Coldplay's upcoming Music of the Spheres world tour has generated immense excitement among fans in India, leading to overwhelming demand for tickets. The official ticketing platform, BookMyShow, faced significant technical difficulties on September 22, 2023, as it struggled to accommodate over 700,000 users, resulting in a crash just before ticket sales began. Fans reported waiting in digital queues that reached up to 11 million, highlighting the intense interest in the band's performances. Initially, Coldplay planned two shows in Mumbai on January 18 and 19, 2025, but due to the high demand, a third show was added for January 21. However, after the official sale concluded, tickets began appearing on unauthorized resale sites at exorbitant prices, with some tickets listed for over 170 times their original cost. This led to widespread outrage among fans, who felt victimized by price gouging and the emergence of scammers on social media. In response to the situation, BookMyShow implemented a limit of four tickets per user for the newly added show and issued warnings about unauthorized sellers. They emphasized that ticket scalping is illegal in India and urged fans to avoid scams, reiterating that they are the only official ticket seller for the tour. The band has a commitment to fair ticket pricing, but the situation in India has proven challenging. Coldplay's performances in Asia will also include shows in Hong Kong, Seoul, and Abu Dhabi, marking their return to these locations after several years. This tour will be their first in India since 2016, further amplifying the anticipation among local fans.
