On Tuesday, November 11, 2024, at approximately 9:30 AM, Transportation Security Administration officials discovered a flash-bang grenade in a passenger's bag at Pittsburgh International Airport during routine security checks. The Allegheny County police were called to the scene following the identification of the passenger as 25-year-old Zachary Velling from Morgantown. A technician from the Allegheny County Police Bomb Squad confirmed that the grenade was live before it was safely removed from the area. As a result of the incident, Velling faces two misdemeanor charges for possessing prohibitive offensive weapons and carrying explosives on conveyances. He was taken into custody and transported to the Allegheny County Jail for processing.
