Story

The Sphere, a cutting-edge concert venue known for its stunning visuals and haptic seating, is reportedly close to finalizing a deal with Warner Bros. Discovery to create an immersive adaptation of the 1939 classic film "The Wizard of Oz." Sources indicate that the ambitious project aims to transform the original 102-minute film into an 80-minute sensory experience, although the estimated production cost of $80 million has raised eyebrows. An analyst noted that while the price tag is significant, the venture is financially viable, as original content tends to generate more revenue than concerts. Currently, The Sphere is showcasing "Postcard from Earth," a 55-minute film directed by Darren Aronofsky, which is screened up to three times daily in the 20,000-seat arena. Ticket prices start at $114, but it remains uncertain how much the venue will charge for the enhanced "Oz" experience, which promises to feature the iconic wicked witch flying across an LED-covered ceiling. Warner Bros. Discovery is expected to receive approximately 5% of the gross profits from the venture. As the venue shifts its focus towards cinematic experiences, owner James Dolan is also on the lookout for musical acts. The Eagles are set to perform in a residency at The Sphere from September to early January. Despite its $2.3 billion construction cost and reported earnings of around $100 million since its opening in September, The Sphere's shares have recently dipped by 15%. Dolan is also considering expanding the concept to other countries, including South Korea.
