Mira Road cop suspended for extorting money from couple

In Mira Road, a police constable named Suryakant Kendre was suspended following allegations of extorting money from a couple. The incident occurred near the L.R. Tiwari Engineering College, where a Maharashtra Security Force guard, Gokul Purhe, confronted the couple. Purhe then contacted Kendre, who arrived at the scene and threatened the couple with legal action for public nuisance unless they paid him. Under duress, the couple transferred Rs 19,000 to Purhe's digital wallet as a bribe to avoid trouble. The MBVV police took the complaint seriously, leading to an investigation by senior police inspector Dhiraj Koli. Upon reviewing the evidence, Koli found substantial proof supporting the couple's claims against Kendre and Purhe. This prompted Koli to submit a detailed report to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for further action. As a result of the findings, DCP Prakash Gaikwad suspended Kendre from duty and initiated a departmental inquiry into his conduct. The Maharashtra Security Force guard, Purhe, was also relieved from his position and sent back to the MSF headquarters. This incident highlights the ongoing issues of corruption and misconduct within law enforcement agencies.
