MCMURRAY, Pa. (KDKA) — A new non-profit activity and learning center, Always B Smiling, has officially opened along the Montour Trail in McMurray, Washington County. This center aims to provide support and resources for individuals with disabilities and their families, fostering a sense of community and connection. The center is a heartfelt tribute to Dean and Kristin Huibregtse's late children, Matthew and Bennett, who both suffered from ARPKD, a severe genetic condition. Matthew lived only a few hours after birth, while Bennett passed away at the age of 16 in 2020. The facility is located at Bennett Park, named in his honor, and serves as a poignant reminder of the family's journey and commitment to helping others facing similar challenges. Kristin Huibregtse expressed the emotional significance of the center, stating, "It's very surreal... to think we have this million-dollar building and what we're able to give back to the community." The center will offer a variety of activities, including adaptive bike rides, crafting, gardening, cooking classes, and family programs, with plans for an outdoor sensory zone in the future. The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place on August 14, marking the beginning of a new chapter for families in the area. The center aims to empower individuals with disabilities by teaching life skills and providing a space for families to connect and share experiences.
