Clovis Police Department's public information officer, Ty Wood, confirmed an investigation into a reported sexual offense involving an Uber driver. The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. when a 20-year-old female passenger reported feeling uncomfortable due to the driver's personal questions. The situation escalated when the driver allegedly showed her a sexually explicit photo on his cellphone, prompting her to plead for an exit from the vehicle. The victim's distress was corroborated by a family friend, who expressed concern that the driver might have intended to kidnap her. The victim managed to escape the vehicle when it stopped at a red light, highlighting the alarming nature of the encounter. "I just couldn't believe this happened and was so bothered by it," the friend stated, emphasizing the emotional impact of the incident. As the investigation unfolds, Wood noted that an attorney representing the driver has contacted the police, and the driver is no longer sought for questioning. The case has been forwarded to the Fresno County District Attorney’s Office for further review. In response to the incident, Uber has suspended the driver’s access to the app while the investigation continues.
