Story

In the United States, a class action lawsuit was filed against Apple in 2018 concerning defects in its early Apple Watch models, specifically Series 0 to Series 3. The lawsuit alleged that Apple was aware of issues causing displays to crack or detach, yet denied warranty claims and failed to acknowledge the problem. These defects became apparent in 2017 when owners reported swollen batteries, which led to display issues. Although Apple implemented a three-year warranty for swollen battery cases, issues related to cracked displays were considered accidental damages, leaving many consumers without support. After years of litigation, Apple has now agreed to a $20 million settlement to compensate affected customers. Individuals eligible for compensation must have purchased an affected Apple Watch model in the U.S. and reported the issue between April 24, 2015, and February 6, 2024. Payments will range from $20 to $50 per individual, depending on the number of valid claims, and Apple is tasked with notifying claimants automatically, who must complete their claims process by April 10, 2025.
