- The incident came to light when the Sahadatganj Police filed a case recently.
- The woman also claimed her husband threatened to burn her alive with acid.
In a troubling case that has emerged from Sahadatganj, a woman has reported her husband’s demand for a dowry of Rs 15 lakh, which he issued after several years of marriage. The incident, which took place in August 2022, has recently come to light following a police complaint. The woman claims that her husband, Munir, had previously coerced her family into giving him Rs 10 lakh under the pretense of starting a business, threatening her with abandonment if they refused. The woman, who was only 19 at the time of her marriage to the 31-year-old Munir, described a pattern of abuse and intimidation. She alleged that her husband often mistreated her and that the significant age difference contributed to her being bullied. After the initial dowry demand, she was allowed to return to her marital home only after her family complied with the financial request. Despite having two children together, the situation deteriorated when Munir once again sought financial assistance, this time for a chemist shop. When the woman and her family expressed their inability to meet his demands, Munir resorted to issuing a talaq via WhatsApp, effectively ending their marriage. The woman has also raised concerns about her safety, alleging threats of violence from her husband. A formal complaint has been lodged, and authorities are currently investigating the matter.
