Shanahan mentioned that he offered Belichick various roles, including the position of defensive coordinator, which was ultimately filled by Nick Sorensen. The two coaches share a notable history, having faced off in Super Bowl LI, where Belichick's Patriots triumphed over Shanahan's Falcons in a dramatic overtime victory. Belichick's departure from the Patriots after the 2023 season marked the end of a legendary 24-year tenure, during which he secured six Super Bowl titles and became the second-winningest coach with one franchise in NFL history. As Belichick transitions to a media role, he is set to join the CW's "Inside the NFL," participate in the "ManningCast" alongside the Manning brothers, and feature weekly on "The Pat McAfee Show." Despite his current media commitments, Shanahan believes that Belichick will return to coaching in the NFL by 2025, hinting at the competitive nature of their relationship.
