Teens arrested for a string of burglaries and vehicle thefts in Denver area

In Colorado, three teenagers, aged 17, 15, and 13, have been taken into custody following an extensive investigation into a series of burglaries and vehicle thefts across the Denver metro area. The operation conducted by the Commerce City Police Department revealed that the trio is connected to numerous crimes, including over two dozen vehicle trespasses and at least two stolen vehicles. At the time of their arrest, law enforcement authorities served a search warrant at a residence where they discovered substantial evidence linking the teens to the crimes, including a shotgun, body armor, over 200 stolen vape products, hundreds of grams of marijuana, and various bottles of alcohol, all indicative of their local criminal activities. The investigation kicked off due to a series of commercial burglaries that targeted businesses within the area, specifically focusing on dispensaries, liquor stores, and vape shops. The teens allegedly utilized stolen vehicles to facilitate these break-ins, and in one instance, they rammed a stolen vehicle into the front of a business to gain entry. Police also indicated that the suspects were involved in an unsuccessful attempt to break into a marijuana grow facility, as shown in surveillance footage where they attempted to gain access by breaking windows. This act underscored the rising concern among cannabis businesses, regarded as high-value targets for theft due to their inventory. According to Michael Ubieta, owner of multiple dispensaries and the Del Mundo grow facility, the increasing frequency of these break-ins poses a significant threat to businesses like his, which rely on the security of their valuable merchandise. Ubieta expressed relief at the arrest of the suspects, emphasizing the commitment businesses have to succeed despite the growing criminal activity surrounding them. The police department has made it clear that they are continuing their investigation and are in pursuit of additional suspects involved in the incidents.
