Google Gemini Live Launches for Android Users in English

On September 15, 2024, Google announced the rollout of Gemini Live, a new feature available free of charge to English-speaking Android users through the Gemini app. This service allows users to interact with Google’s advanced AI models in a conversational manner, enabling them to ask questions and receive responses in real-time. Users can also interrupt the AI mid-sentence, mimicking a natural conversation. While Gemini Live provides access to the premium AI model, it does not include all the advanced features of Gemini 1.5 Pro, such as integration with Gmail and Google Docs. Users seeking these functionalities will need to subscribe to Google One AI Premium and utilize the standard Gemini Advanced chatbot. Despite the limitations, the experience for free users is quite similar to that of paying subscribers, making it an attractive option for many. Google has cautioned users against sharing confidential information during conversations, as human reviewers may analyze saved chats in an anonymized format. This raises concerns about privacy, especially when users engage in casual dialogue with the AI. Currently, Gemini Live is not available for iOS users, but Google plans to launch the Gemini app for iOS soon, which will expand access to this feature. Additionally, support for languages other than English is expected to follow shortly after the iOS launch, indicating Google’s commitment to broadening the reach of its AI capabilities.
