Story

Evanston police have arrested 38-year-old Christopher Davis in connection with a shooting that occurred on August 5. The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of Dempster Street, where two men exchanged gunfire following a quarrel. Shortly after the altercation, Davis was observed driving away from the scene with a handgun believed to be involved in the shooting. Officers stopped Davis in a Volvo and discovered a Smith M&P 9mm handgun in the rear of the vehicle. Although initially detained and later released, police obtained a search warrant for the car, which led to the recovery of the firearm. Investigators noted that Davis was seen holding a similar black handgun immediately after the shots were fired, although he did not discharge the weapon himself. He has since been charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon and is currently held at the Cook County Jail. In a related development, Gayle, the younger of the two men injured in the initial shootout, has been charged with aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. The following day, another shooting incident occurred in the same area, where a 50-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the hand. He sought assistance at a nearby home and was later hospitalized, with his condition reported as stable.
