During a recent trip to Central Asia, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz's delegation, led by Tobias Bartz, CEO of the Rhenus Group, announced significant investments aimed at enhancing regional logistics. A joint venture was established with Uzbekistan's AO 'Uztemir'yolkonteyner' to develop a modern logistics center in Andijan. Additionally, a declaration of intent was signed with Kazakhstan's NC 'Aktau Sea Commercial Port' JSC to create an intermodal terminal in Aktau. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to strengthen economic ties between Germany and Central Asia, particularly in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. The Rhenus Group, which has been active in Central Asia for nearly 30 years, is focusing on projects that will improve the infrastructure necessary for trade between Asia and Europe. The establishment of the logistics center and the intermodal terminal is expected to facilitate the movement of goods along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor. This route is crucial for diversifying trade options for the European Union and enhancing the global economy. Bartz emphasized that these investments are supported by the governments of both Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, highlighting the strategic importance of the Eurasian corridor. The projects aim to bolster the local export trade and reinforce the position of German industry in the global market. The Rhenus Group's majority stake in the joint venture with Uzbek Railways marks a significant step in the transport sector. Overall, these developments reflect a growing commitment to regional cooperation and infrastructure development, which are essential for creating a seamless supply chain between Europe and China through Central Asia.
