Dennis Bohm drives veterans to medical appointments in Shawano for 20 years

For two decades, Dennis Bohm, an 85-year-old U.S. Marine Corps veteran, dedicated his time to driving fellow veterans from the Shawano area to medical appointments at VA medical centers, including the one in Milwaukee. Over this period, he logged more than 237,000 miles and completed over 2,430 trips, providing essential transportation for those in need. His commitment resulted in a remarkable total of more than 8,400 volunteer hours, equivalent to a full year of service. Bohm's journey began with a diary documenting his experiences with veterans from various wars, including World War I, II, and the Korean War. He formed deep connections with the veterans he transported, often becoming a confidant for their personal stories. His dedication was recognized by the VA system in Northeast Wisconsin, where he was known for consistently taking the longest trips, making him a vital part of the Disabled American Veterans transportation program. Despite his retirement from driving, Bohm expressed a desire to continue volunteering with other veterans' programs in Shawano.
