Isaiah Buggs, a former defensive lineman for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been convicted of animal cruelty in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. Court records indicate that Buggs was sentenced on July 19 to 365 days of hard labor, with 60 days to be served starting July 16, 2024. The remaining 300 days of his sentence have been suspended for two years, contingent on his behavior during that period. Additionally, Buggs is prohibited from possessing firearms and owning dogs or cats. Despite the conviction, Buggs did not enter a guilty plea in the case, and he was released from jail on bond. His attorney, Greg Gambril, confirmed that a trial date will be set in the future. Buggs’ agent, Trey Robinson, declined to comment on the situation but previously stated that Buggs "vehemently denies" the animal cruelty allegations, asserting that the dogs involved did not belong to him. In addition to the animal cruelty charges, Buggs is facing a pending domestic violence case stemming from an arrest in June. The preliminary hearing for this case is scheduled for August. Robinson has suggested that Buggs is being unfairly targeted as part of a campaign against a hookah lounge he owns in Tuscaloosa. Buggs was drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft and received a Super Bowl LVIII ring in 2024. He is currently a free agent following his release from the Chiefs.
