Story

In a significant shift in the UK political landscape, Nigel Farage’s Reform UK party has overtaken the Conservative Party in national polling, according to a recent survey by Omnisis. The poll, conducted from August 7th to 8th, indicates that Reform UK’s support has surged to 21 percent, up from 14.7 percent last month, while the Conservatives have dropped to 20 percent, down from 24.4 percent. This rise comes amid ongoing tensions following anti-mass migration riots, which some in the political establishment have attempted to link to Farage. The governing Labour Party has also seen a decline in support, falling six points to 33 percent, as criticism mounts over Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s response to the riots that erupted after a mass stabbing incident in Southport. Lee Anderson, Reform UK’s chief whip, suggested that the poll reflects “buyer’s remorse” among voters who supported Labour in the recent general election, asserting that Reform is now appealing to disillusioned Labour supporters. Despite Reform UK’s rise, an analysis by Stats for Lefties indicates that Labour is still projected to gain 18 additional seats in the House of Commons, while the Conservatives could lose 50 seats, leaving them with just 71. The Liberal Democrats are also expected to gain four seats, despite a slight drop in their voting intention. While the poll positions Reform UK as the second most popular party, the analysis suggests they would secure only 29 seats in Parliament, a modest increase from their previous election results. This development challenges narratives from the media and political establishment that have sought to blame Farage for the recent unrest, despite his public condemnations of the violence.
