Weini Kelati Qualifies for Paris Marathon After Leaving Eritrea

In a poignant reflection, long-distance runner Nelly Kelati recalls a childhood photograph that captures her family together, a cherished memory that fuels her determination. The image serves as a reminder of a pivotal moment in 2014 when, as a teenager, she made the life-altering decision to remain in the United States after competing in the world junior championships in Eugene, Oregon. “When I landed, I was like, ‘I’m going to be away from my family for a very long time,’” she shared, acknowledging the emotional weight of her choice.
