On October 22, 2024, the crime detection unit of the Tulinj police station in India made a significant arrest in Nallasopara. The suspect, Shivam Sudhir Jha, 26, was apprehended while attempting to find buyers for stolen Royal Enfield Bullet motorcycles. Initially arrested for a mobile theft, further investigation uncovered his specialization in stealing these high-demand bikes. Jha had stolen three Bullet motorcycles in just under two weeks from the Virar-Nallasopara region, exploiting his ability to break their handle locks and bypass ignition systems effortlessly. His choice of targets was driven by the lucrative resale market that Bullet motorcycles command. Police officers laid a trap after gathering intelligence on Jha’s activities, leading to his arrest, where they recovered the stolen motorcycles and a mobile phone, collectively valued at Rs 2.50 lakh. During questioning, he confessed to his involvement in three bike thefts and the initial mobile theft, though police believe he may have committed more offenses in the surrounding area. Assistant Police Inspector Sunil Pawar is spearheading the investigation to determine the full extent of Jha’s criminal activities. The case highlights ongoing issues with motorcycle theft and the challenges law enforcement faces in curbing such specialized criminal behavior.
