CHICAGO (CBS) — A shooting early Saturday morning in the Austin neighborhood of Chicago resulted in one fatality and two injuries. The incident occurred around 4:40 a.m. in the 4700 block of West Polk Street, where three individuals were struck by gunfire. Preliminary reports indicate that a 53-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were outside when they heard gunshots. The man sustained a critical gunshot wound to his abdomen and was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The woman was shot in her right ankle and is currently in good condition after receiving treatment at the same hospital. Additionally, a 33-year-old man was injured in the shooting, suffering a gunshot wound to his right foot. He managed to self-transport to Rush Hospital, where he is also reported to be in good condition. As of Saturday, no suspects have been apprehended, and area detectives are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The community remains on alert as authorities work to gather more information and bring those responsible to justice.
