In Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Broward Mosquito Control is implementing a proactive spraying initiative to combat mosquito populations due to recent wet weather. The spraying will occur nightly from Monday to Friday, between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., targeting an area bordered by E Sunrise Boulevard, State Road A1A, SE 17 Street, and Federal Highway. The larvicide used, VectoBac WDG, is designed to eliminate larvae of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes, which are known vectors for diseases such as dengue, yellow fever, and chikungunya. This measure aims to reduce the risk of disease transmission in the community. Residents and business owners are encouraged to assist in these efforts by regularly checking their properties for standing water, which can serve as breeding grounds for mosquitoes. By removing stagnant water from items like buckets, tires, and birdbaths, the community can help mitigate the mosquito population and protect public health.
