The report accused the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) chief of involvement in a significant financial scandal. In a post on X, Ranaut labeled Gandhi as "dangerous and poisonous," asserting that his actions are aimed at undermining the nation. She expressed her belief that if Gandhi cannot ascend to the position of Prime Minister, he seeks to destroy India instead. Ranaut further condemned Gandhi's support for the Hindenburg report, which she described as a "damp squib" that threatens the stability of the Indian economy and security. She emphasized that Gandhi's agenda is detrimental, claiming he is attempting to destabilize the nation. In her remarks, she warned Gandhi to prepare for a lifetime in opposition, suggesting that the Indian populace would never accept him as a leader. The controversy stems from a recent claim by US-based Hindenburg Research, which alleged that SEBI chairperson Madhabi Buch and her husband had ties to offshore funds implicated in the Adani Group scandal. In response, Gandhi highlighted the risks posed to the Indian stock market, asserting that compromised institutions threaten its integrity. He called for Buch's resignation and criticized the Central government's silence regarding the serious allegations presented in the report.
