Wegmans announces Pittsburgh store opening in 2027

Wegmans, the well-known supermarket chain, is set to open its first location in the Pittsburgh region in 2027, marking a significant expansion into western Pennsylvania. The new store will be situated in Cranberry Township on Cool Springs Drive, conveniently located near the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, which is a prominent facility for sports and community activities. This initiative comes after the company has received thousands of requests from local residents for a Wegmans store since establishing its first store in Pennsylvania over 30 years ago. The development of the Wegmans store is part of the larger Cranberry Springs project, which aims to integrate commercial, residential, office, and retail facilities in this growing area. Wegmans anticipates that the store will provide as many as 500 job opportunities, contributing to the local economy and employment landscape. Dan Aken, Wegmans' vice president of real estate and store planning, expressed that Cranberry Township was an ideal location for their first store in the Pittsburgh area due to its evolving community dynamics. Although there is no precise timeline for the construction process, the store is expected to be a focal point for community shopping, offering a variety of food products, including fresh produce, bakery items, deli products, and a diverse selection of wine and beer, once it opens.
