HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) — A Florida couple's trip to Houston took a distressing turn when they discovered that several designer bags filled with their belongings had been stolen from their rented Tesla while parked outside the Houston Zoo. The couple, visiting family in Beaumont, had stopped at the zoo en route to the airport for their flight home. They expressed frustration over the incident, stating they could not return to Beaumont to retrieve their items. Surveillance footage from the vehicle captured a man with dreadlocks and tattoos, dressed in a pink or red Nike muscle shirt, approaching the car around 2 p.m. He was seen opening the trunk and leaving with multiple bags. The couple estimated the value of the stolen items at approximately $15,000, which included personal belongings and clothing. Notably, the thief left behind a backpack and some electronics, specifically avoiding items with tracking devices, such as their Apple products. In response to the theft, the couple filed a report with the Houston Police Department (HPD), which indicated that the case would be handled by its Auto Theft Division. If the value of the stolen items is confirmed to be as high as estimated, the crime could be classified as a felony. The victim remarked on the immediate need for essentials, stating that their next stop would be a local store for clothing and toiletries. Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the theft to contact Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
