Story

Austrian authorities have thwarted a planned terror attack on upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna, arresting two teenagers and uncovering bomb-making materials at one suspect's home. The main suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian citizen with North Macedonian roots, confessed to the plot during interrogation, revealing intentions to cause mass casualties outside the concert venue. A second suspect, a 17-year-old with Turkish-Croatian heritage, was also apprehended, while a 15-year-old Turkish citizen was detained for questioning but not arrested. The suspects were reportedly inspired by extremist groups, including the Islamic State and al-Qaeda. Authorities discovered Islamic State propaganda and materials for bomb-making at the homes of both suspects. The 19-year-old had been planning the attack since July and had altered his appearance significantly. The 17-year-old had recently begun working at the concert venue, which would have positioned him to assist in the attack. In light of the threat, concert organizers canceled the three scheduled shows, which were expected to draw up to 65,000 fans each night. Fans expressed disappointment but showed solidarity in the wake of the news. Swift, who has previously voiced concerns about large-scale violence at her concerts, is set to perform in London later this month, with authorities there stating they are prepared to ensure safety at the events.
