PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Giant Eagle has announced the sale of its GetGo Café + Market locations to Canadian convenience store giant Alimentation Couche-Tard. The transaction, which is subject to approval by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), is expected to be finalized in 2025. This strategic move aims to allow Giant Eagle to concentrate on its core supermarket and pharmacy operations while enhancing its business model. In a statement, Giant Eagle CEO Bill Artman expressed optimism about the sale, highlighting the potential benefits for both companies. He noted that the partnership with Couche-Tard would not only strengthen Giant Eagle's focus but also provide opportunities for strategic investments in their workforce and stores. The agreement includes a commitment to continue the myPerks loyalty program across both Giant Eagle and GetGo locations, with plans to explore further expansion of the program. GetGo operates approximately 270 locations across several states, including Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland, and Indiana, employing around 3,500 individuals.
