However, the 379 residents are currently grappling with soaring temperatures reaching 33 degrees Celsius during one of the hottest weekends of the year, as reported by Euro News. The local government has imposed strict regulations on air conditioning usage due to Portofino's status as a regional national park. Residents must obtain permission to install air conditioning units, which must be discreetly placed to preserve the village's aesthetic. A few years ago, the installation of such units was entirely banned, leading to frustration among locals as they seek relief from the oppressive heat. Reports indicate that tensions are rising, with residents reportedly informing on each other for using air conditioning. Police have been patrolling the area, particularly near La Piazzetta, where many of the newly installed units are located. Between January and May, there were 22 reported breaches of the air conditioning regulations, highlighting the growing discontent among the community. Local authorities, including Viacava, emphasize the importance of maintaining the village's beauty while ensuring compliance with the regulations. Despite the discomfort caused by the heat, officials assert that the restrictions are in place to enhance the village's value and preserve its charm for both residents and visitors alike.
