In a nostalgic reunion, Joginder Sharma, the unsung hero of India's 2007 T20 World Cup Final victory, met former captain MS Dhoni in Haryana on August 2, marking their first encounter in 12 years. Joginder, who currently serves as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in Haryana, played a pivotal role in the final against Pakistan, where his calm demeanor under pressure helped secure India's maiden T20 title. During the tense final moments of the match, with Pakistan needing 13 runs off six balls, Dhoni entrusted Joginder with the crucial task of bowling the final over. Despite conceding a six on his first delivery, Sharma maintained his composure and delivered a full-length ball that Misbah-ul-Haq attempted to scoop. The ball was caught brilliantly by Sreesanth, sealing India's victory and etching Joginder's name in cricket history. Following his international debut in 2004, Joginder Sharma played a total of four T20 Internationals and four One Day Internationals, claiming five wickets. Although his opportunities at the international level were limited, he remains celebrated for his performance in the 2007 final. In February 2023, he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, with his last appearance for India being in the same T20 World Cup. In addition to his international career, Joginder was part of the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League during 2008 and 2009, further contributing to his legacy in Indian cricket.
