Seven hunters fined $35,000 in Newfoundland during fall bird season

Notable cases included Larry Quinlan, who was fined $5,000 for possessing a seagull and an Atlantic Puffin, and Lorne Decker, who also received a $5,000 fine for having an uncased shotgun while hunting Murres. Additionally, Tyler and Colin Greenham faced penalties for using unplugged shotguns, while Darrell Reddick was caught with two loaded shotguns, one of which was unplugged, leading to the seizure of multiple items. The enforcement actions were part of a broader initiative by Environment and Climate Change Canada to protect migratory birds and their habitats. Officers not only issued fines but also provided warnings and imposed $5,500 in administrative monetary penalties during their patrols. The enforcement efforts underscore the commitment to wildlife conservation and the legal repercussions of non-compliance. The Environmental Damages Fund, established in 1995, will receive the fines collected, which will be directed towards projects aimed at repairing environmental damage.
