BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Following the tragic loss of their teenage daughter in a car accident in 2017, Joshua and Stacy Nehring have dedicated their lives to supporting others through grief. They founded SRVIVRS, a global community aimed at raising awareness about grief and providing support through community service projects. Their initiative connects families who have experienced similar losses, fostering a sense of solidarity and healing. Joshua Nehring is currently undertaking an ambitious endeavor known as the Black Pearl Project, which involves jogging 17,000 miles across 48 state capitol buildings, covering 40 to 60 miles each day. This project was inspired by his conversations with grieving families and his desire to honor their memories. He likens the process of overcoming grief to the formation of a black pearl, where an irritant is transformed into something beautiful through layers of resilience and service. Stacy Nehring has also found solace in connecting with others through the Live Like Lilli Foundation, which honors their daughter’s memory. She describes her journey from despair to hope, stating that serving in her daughter’s name has brought her immense joy and fulfillment. “I was in the darkest of dark, but when I was serving in her name and I could see that lives were being changed for good, I was at the highest of highs,” she shared. As Joshua approaches 3,000 miles in his journey, he is headed to Helena, Montana, with the goal of establishing survivor support groups nationwide, furthering their mission to help others navigate their grief.
