Story

— The Las Vegas Raiders have re-signed backup quarterback Nathan Peterman, who previously spent three seasons with the team from 2018 to 2021. Peterman's return comes as the Raiders prepare for the upcoming season, where he is expected to serve as a backup to either Aidan O’Connell or Gardner Minshew, both of whom are vying for the starting quarterback position. In a recent preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings, O’Connell and Minshew each played a quarter, helping the Raiders to a 20-7 halftime lead. However, the team's backups, Anthony Brown Jr. and Carter Bradley, struggled, allowing the Vikings to come back and win 24-23. The Raiders had previously utilized three quarterbacks last season, taking advantage of the NFL's new emergency QB rule. Peterman's career has seen limited action; he played only two games in 2020 and 2021, completing three of five passes. In 2022, while with the Chicago Bears, he recorded 14 completions on 25 attempts for 139 yards, along with one touchdown and one interception. He did not see any game action last season and was a backup for the Bears before signing with the New Orleans Saints earlier this year, only to be released shortly after. The Raiders are set to host the Dallas Cowboys in their next preseason matchup on Saturday night, as they continue to finalize their roster ahead of the regular season.
