Story

In New Zealand, Rocket Lab USA, Inc. achieved a significant milestone by successfully launching its second mission for the Institute for Q-shu Pioneers of Space, Inc. (iQPS) on March 15, 2025. The mission, named 'The Lightning God Reigns,' took off from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 located in Mahia at 1:00 p.m. NZDT, deploying the QPS-SAR-9 spacecraft into a 575-kilometer circular Earth orbit. This launch is part of a broader initiative to expand the iQPS radar imaging satellite constellation. The successful deployment of the QPS-SAR-9 follows Rocket Lab's first launch for iQPS that occurred in December 2023, signifying the start of a long-term collaboration between the two entities. iQPS intends to establish a network of up to 36 synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellites, with Rocket Lab's Electron launch vehicle scheduled to conduct eight launches throughout 2025 and 2026 as part of this ambitious project. Five of the planned launches are projected to occur in the current year, while the remaining two will take place in 2026. This mission highlights Rocket Lab’s capabilities in providing flexible launch services tailored to the specific needs of its customers. CEO of iQPS, Dr. Shunsuke Onishi, commended the efficient collaboration between iQPS and Rocket Lab, emphasizing the reliability of the Electron rocket in meeting their deployment timeline and objectives. The continuous efforts to develop the satellite constellation underscore the significant demand for advanced Earth observation technologies in various sectors, including scientific research and national security. Looking forward, Rocket Lab's next mission is scheduled only three days after this launch, indicating a robust operational tempo and commitment to furthering satellite deployment capabilities. With each successful launch, Rocket Lab not only strengthens its own reputation in the space launch industry but also contributes to the advancement of global satellite communications and Earth monitoring solutions.
