Manchester United reports £113m loss for 2023-24 season

Manchester United reported a net loss of £113.2 million for the 2023-24 season, marking their fifth consecutive annual loss. This financial downturn occurred despite the club achieving record revenues of £661.8 million, primarily due to increased broadcasting and matchday income. The losses are attributed to heightened investments in the playing squad and exceptional costs of £47.8 million related to a strategic review process that led to Sir Jim Ratcliffe acquiring a minority stake in the club. The club's pre-tax loss reached £130.7 million, significantly impacting their compliance with the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules, which allow a maximum loss of £105 million over a three-year period. Over the last cycle, Manchester United's total pre-tax loss amounted to £312.9 million. However, the club can adjust these figures by including expenditures on youth development, women's football, and community initiatives, as well as losses from the Covid-19 pandemic. In response to these financial challenges, United has initiated a restructuring process that includes cutting 250 jobs. The new part-ownership under Ratcliffe aims to implement cost-cutting measures to stabilize the club's finances.
