HOUSTON (AP) — In a series of roster adjustments, the Chicago White Sox have claimed right-hander Enyel De Los Santos off waivers from the New York Yankees, marking a significant move for the struggling team. The White Sox, currently holding the worst record in Major League Baseball, also recalled right-hander Gus Varland from Triple-A Charlotte while placing Steven Wilson on the 15-day injured list due to a lower back strain. Additionally, Mike Clevinger has been transferred to the 60-day injured list following season-ending neck surgery. De Los Santos, who was acquired by the Yankees from San Diego on July 30, had a challenging stint in New York, pitching in five games and allowing 10 runs over 6 1/3 innings. He was designated for assignment earlier this week after posting a 5.79 ERA in 49 appearances this season. Over his six-year major league career, De Los Santos has a record of 14-6 with a 4.52 ERA in 214 games, primarily in relief roles. Gus Varland, who was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers on August 2, is expected to bolster the White Sox bullpen. He recorded a 3.86 ERA in four appearances for Triple-A Charlotte and had a solid 3.00 ERA in seven games with the Dodgers this season. The White Sox continue to navigate a difficult season, with Wilson struggling at 1-6 and a 5.71 ERA, while Clevinger's absence leaves a significant gap in the rotation after his disappointing start to the year.
