- The gang of migrants is orchestrating the 'wolfpack' robberies in the park.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) has identified a gang of migrants as the primary suspects behind a series of “wolfpack” robberies occurring in Central Park. Reports indicate that individuals residing in city-run shelters are allegedly responsible for a significant increase in robberies, particularly in the southern section of the park. The modus operandi involves surrounding victims in groups, reminiscent of a wolfpack, to steal their belongings. Surveillance footage has captured an 11-year-old boy using stolen credit cards linked to one of the victims, highlighting the involvement of minors in these crimes. Recent incidents have seen young suspects, some as young as 11, arrested for their roles in these robberies. Two of the three suspects apprehended in a robbery at Grand Army Plaza were found to be living in city-run migrant shelters. The NYPD has reported a concerning trend, with approximately 30 robberies recorded this year, a significant rise from just 10 during the same period last year. Additionally, felony assaults in the area have also increased, raising alarms among local residents and park-goers. In response to the alarming spike in crime, the NYPD has announced the deployment of an additional 40 police officers in Central Park during evening hours. Chief of Patrol John Chell emphasized the department's commitment to maintaining safety in one of the world’s most iconic locations, stating that they will not tolerate such criminal activities. The police are determined to address this emerging pattern of migrant-related robberies and restore a sense of security in the park.
