Story

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) — The FireKeepers 400 NASCAR Cup race has been suspended until Monday after rain interruptions prevented the event from being completed on Sunday. The race, which was originally scheduled for 200 laps, faced delays as cars were sent to pit road on Lap 51 while officials assessed the weather conditions. The race is set to resume at 11 a.m. EDT on Monday, marking a second consecutive year of delays at Michigan. During driver introductions, Austin Dillon received mixed reactions from the crowd, following his controversial win at Richmond Raceway the previous week. Denny Hamlin, who started on the pole after qualifying was canceled due to rain, faced challenges as the race began under less-than-ideal conditions. Despite efforts to dry the track, the weather continued to hinder racing activities. As the race progressed, Kyle Larson initially took the lead, reaching speeds over 200 mph. However, Bubba Wallace made a notable move, passing both Larson and Hamlin on Lap 36, much to the delight of co-owner Michael Jordan. The race saw strategic decisions, including Wallace's pit stop that cost him points but aimed to optimize his chances for a win later in the race. With only three races remaining in the season, the playoff picture remains competitive, with 12 drivers already securing spots and four still up for grabs. Teams will quickly shift focus to the upcoming Coke Zero Sugar 400 in Daytona Beach, Florida, following the resumption of the FireKeepers 400.
