Teen killed in DUI hit-and-run in Oakland surrenders to police

The collision resulted in the death of a 17-year-old teenager, while an adult pedestrian was hospitalized in stable condition. The driver, Agusto Matias, fled the scene but was later apprehended with the assistance of local residents. Authorities determined that Matias was intoxicated at the time of the accident. Following his arrest, police collected blood samples for analysis to support DUI charges. The investigation took several days, as the blood results were crucial for a thorough case against Matias. After four days in custody, the results were processed, and the case was forwarded to the Alameda County District Attorney's office. Matias was charged on September 5, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. After several attempts to locate him, he surrendered to the Oakland Police on September 7 and was rebooked into jail. His arraignment is scheduled for the upcoming Tuesday, highlighting the legal proceedings that will follow this tragic event.
