- Universal Destinations and Experiences plans to invest in a new theme park in Bedford, projected to open in 2031.
- The project is anticipated to create approximately 28,000 jobs, significantly benefiting the local economy.
- The theme park is expected to become the largest attraction in the UK, drawing millions of visitors annually.
In April 2025, the UK government confirmed the establishment of Europe’s first Universal theme park in Bedfordshire, set to open in 2031. The project represents a significant investment from Universal Destinations and Experiences, part of Comcast, and is expected to generate approximately £50 billion for the UK economy by 2055. The park is projected to create around 28,000 jobs, with nearly 20,000 jobs available during the construction phase and an additional 8,000 roles available in hospitality and the creative sectors upon its opening. The expansive 476-acre site will include various attractions, a 500-room hotel, and retail spaces, aiming to become the largest tourist destination in the UK with an estimated 8.5 million visitors in its first year. This investment is seen as a vote of confidence in the UK business environment post-Brexit, reflecting strong governmental support for international projects aimed at fostering economic growth. Local councils are collaborating with Universal to expedite planning, with a full proposal expected to be submitted soon.
