Coppola, 85, has a storied history with the DGA, having received five nominations and winning the award for outstanding directorial achievement twice for his iconic films, “The Godfather” (1972) and its sequel (1974). His latest project, “Megalopolis,” which is his first feature film in 13 years, is set to open in theaters on September 27. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews and will also be showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival. In addition to Coppola, the DGA will honor several other notable figures, including former CBS News executive Susan Zirinsky, and the sibling duo Tony and Gina Argento from Broadway Stages. The arthouse film company Criterion will also be recognized for its contributions to cinema. Lesli Linka Glatter, DGA president, expressed pride in celebrating the 25th anniversary of the DGA Honors, emphasizing the importance of acknowledging visionary storytellers who have significantly influenced American culture through their work in film and television.
