On May 6, 2025, in New Delhi, Union Minister of Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, inaugurated Bharat Telecom 2025, a significant event organized by the Telecom Equipment and Services Export Promotion Council (TEPC) in collaboration with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). The event aimed to highlight India's growing status as a global hub for telecom manufacturing and services, showcasing its capabilities in telecom equipment and next-generation digital technologies. The two-day event also featured an International Business Expo with participation from over 130 foreign delegates representing more than 35 countries. During his address, Scindia referred to Bharat Telecom as a declaration of India's intention to shape global connectivity through innovation and collaboration. He pointed out the remarkable advancements India has made in telecom infrastructure, citing that 99% of villages are now connected with 5G technology, and 82% of the population has access to the network. In a span of just 22 months, he noted, India deployed 470,000 telecom towers, emphasizing this transformation as a 'telecom revolution' rather than mere evolution. Scindia stressed that the telecom sector forms the foundational layer for crucial services like healthcare, education, governance, and economic growth. He credited the rapid digital transformation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, asserting that India has shifted from being a digital follower to a global digital leader. Alongside him, Minister of State for Communications, Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, echoed similar sentiments, claiming that India is no longer a mere participant in international discussions, but rather a defining force, creating world-class telecom solutions. Dr. Sekhar highlighted the importance of government initiatives such as the Digital India campaign, production-linked incentive schemes, and reforms in spectrum allocation, which contributed to this shift. He mentioned India's growing role in global supply chains, underscoring that the country produces approximately 15% of the world’s iPhones. He also outlined ambitions for future technological advancements in fields like 6G, satellite broadband, and quantum communication. Meanwhile, Arnob Roy, Chairman of the TEPC, welcomed international delegates, urging them to explore the transformative innovations presented at Bharat Telecom 2025 and reinforcing India's image as a trustworthy destination for telecom exports.
