BYD overtakes Tesla in global NEV sales amid declining sales
- BYD Co. Ltd. became the leading global NEV manufacturer in Q2 2025 with a 30% increase in sales.
- Tesla, Inc. saw a 14% decline in sales, particularly in key markets like California and the UK.
- BYD's sales surge and aggressive expansion plans indicate a significant shift in the global EV market landscape.
In the global electric vehicle market, BYD Co. Ltd. has emerged as a prominent leader in new energy vehicle (NEV) sales by achieving substantial growth throughout 2025. Market research firm Trendforce reported that BYD captured over 18.3% of the total NEV market share, while Tesla Inc. lagged behind with an 11.7% share following a significant 14% year-on-year sales decline. This shift in market dynamics is attributed to Tesla's shrinking sales figures in various markets, including notable decreases of 21% in California and over 60% in the UK. Meanwhile, BYD's sales surged a remarkable 314% in the UK alone, highlighting the company's growing popularity.
