Story

Five men have been released on bail following their court appearance related to a disturbance at a church in County Donegal on Sunday. The incident, which escalated into a confrontation in the church's car park, prompted a significant response from local GardaĆ, who maintained a heavy presence at the courthouse during the proceedings. The men face various charges, including threatening and abusive behavior, as well as possession of offensive weapons. Among those charged is Michael McDonagh, 34, from Letterkenny, who was accused of threatening behavior intended to provoke a breach of the peace. GardaĆ did not oppose his bail, but requested conditions such as regular check-ins at the local Garda station and restrictions on contact with other involved parties. The remaining four defendants, a father and his three sons, were represented by solicitor Patsy Gallagher. Michael Reilly Junior, 31, and his father, Michael Reilly Senior, 56, along with Thomas Reilly, 21, and John Paul Reilly, 29, all face similar charges of threatening behavior and possession of weapons, including a small axe and garden saws. They were also granted bail under conditions that include signing in at their local Garda station and maintaining good behavior. All five men are required to stay out of County Donegal, except for court appearances, and are prohibited from contacting the McDonagh family. They are scheduled to return to court on September 16.
