Thousands of redheads gather for their annual celebration in Tilburg

Today, in the southern Dutch city of Tilburg, the once-a-year festival has attracted thousands of redheads from around the world. The vibrant event, known as the Redhead Days festival, includes a range of activities such as music, food trucks, and specialized workshops that cater to the unique needs of redheads, including makeup tips and skin cancer prevention. The festival, which lasts three days, is expected to draw attendees from approximately 80 countries, demonstrating its global appeal and the strength of the red-haired community. The origins of this gathering date back two decades to when Dutch artist Bart Rouwenhorst called for 15 red-haired models for an art project, leading to an overwhelming response that inspired subsequent annual meetups. The event is free to attend, although a group photo scheduled for Sunday is limited to “natural” redheads only, emphasizing the festival's focus on celebrating natural red hair. In 2013, the festival set a Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of individuals with natural red hair, with 1,672 participants posing for a group photo. This record highlights the growing recognition and celebration of red hair in a world where it is often seen as unique. Attendees, like magician Daniel Hank from Germany, share their experiences of having once faced bullying due to their appearance.
