Story

SACRAMENTO – A tragic incident at the Sacramento County main jail has prompted an investigation after one inmate died and another was revived on Friday morning. The sheriff's office reported that deputies responded to a cell around 11:15 a.m. following reports of two unresponsive men. Upon arrival, deputies found the inmates unresponsive and immediately began administering first aid. Both inmates received Narcan multiple times, a medication used to counteract opioid overdoses. One of the inmates, who has not been identified, was successfully revived and began to breathe on his own. He was subsequently transported to a hospital and later cleared for incarceration. However, the other inmate, a 40-year-old man who had been in custody since June 22, was pronounced dead at the jail. The sheriff's office has confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the man's death is currently underway. The coroner's office is expected to release further details, including the cause of death and the identity of the deceased inmate. This incident raises concerns about the health and safety protocols in place within the correctional facility, as authorities work to uncover the events leading up to this tragic outcome.
