Story

In the early hours of December 6, 2024, in Chuluota, Florida, a tragic incident unfolded that left a teenager orphaned. James Christopher Lindsey, 42, brutally attacked his ex-wife, Kristin Stevens, 40, inside her suburban home. During this horrific confrontation, which reportedly took place around 1 AM while Stevens was sleeping beside her new boyfriend, Lindsey stabbed her more than 50 times. The boyfriend, upon waking to the alarming scene, fled to a neighbor’s house to call for help. The circumstances surrounding this violent act stemmed from a tumultuous history of domestic violence. Less than a month prior, on November 6, Lindsey had been arrested for domestic violence against Stevens, leading to a court injunction that barred him from contacting her. Despite the serious nature of the charges and a stipulated no-contact order, Lindsey was not subjected to GPS monitoring, a fact that has since sparked outrage among friends and family of the victim. The day of the attack was significant, as it was also the scheduled date for Lindsey's court arraignment related to those charges. After committing the murder, Lindsey fled the scene and subsequently lost control of his vehicle while driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph. This reckless driving resulted in a fatal crash where he was ejected from the car and died at the scene. The shocking nature of these events has left the community reeling, as many grapple with the realities of domestic violence and its devastating impact. In the wake of this tragedy, Stevens’ friend Kori Alvarez Resto has initiated a GoFundMe campaign to assist the orphaned son of Stevens and to advocate for more stringent laws surrounding domestic violence. Resto has been vocal about the need for legal reforms to prevent offenders from evading monitoring systems, stating that no one should be able to break an injunction and cause harm again. The community continues to mourn Stevens, described as a loving mother, who had been trying to escape an abusive relationship, only to fall victim to it in the most tragic way conceivable.
