In a thrilling display of skill and strategy, Australian surfer Jack Robinson delivered an outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics in Tahiti, achieving the highest individual wave score of the competition thus far. Competing in a crucial elimination heat against Peruvian surfer Lucca Mesinas, Robinson showcased his deep understanding of the notoriously challenging Teahupo’o break. By skillfully maneuvering in the take-off zone, he lured Mesinas into making a move, allowing him to capitalize on the moment and secure a near-perfect score of 9.87. Robinson's impressive wave ride not only highlighted his surfing prowess but also underscored the blend of knowledge and luck that defines competitive surfing. With a solid backup score of 7.00, he successfully advanced past Mesinas, but the road ahead remains challenging. In the next round, Robinson will face off against current world No. 1 John John Florence, who has already claimed victory in three World Surf League events this year, including the Surf City El Salvador Pro. Meanwhile, fellow competitors are also making headlines. Ewing, who suffered a serious injury in Tahiti last year, is set to compete against Connor O’Leary, who has switched his allegiance to Japan. In the women’s draw, two-time world champion Wright faced a tough heat against Israel’s Anat Lelior but struggled to find the necessary scores, ultimately falling short with a backup score of just 1.60. The competition continues to heat up as surfers vie for Olympic glory.
